The Korea Testing and Research Institute (KTR) is partnering with a specialist agency to help K‑Food break into the global halal market by collaborating on testing and certification technologies.
On the 18th, KTR said it signed a memorandum of understanding at its Gwacheon headquarters with the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute. The MOU focuses on cooperation in halal testing and certification technology and on supporting Korean food companies as they expand exports.
The Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute — an agency under South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety — oversees Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification for food and livestock products and runs tailored technical support programs.
It’s also working to help domestic companies enter the halal market and bolster their global competitiveness, including efforts to secure recognition as an accredited halal certification body.
Under the MOU, the two organizations agreed to △ cooperate on halal food testing △ exchange regulatory information on halal certification systems △ launch joint activities to support domestic companies’ entry into the halal market.
KTR plans to actively back testing and certification cooperation, provide technical assistance, and facilitate professional staff exchanges so the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute can obtain formal designation as a halal certification body.
KTR President Kim Hyun-chul said, “Through active partnerships with halal organizations at home and abroad, KTR has secured its status as Korea’s leading halal certification support agency. We will continue expanding halal-related initiatives to more vigorously support K‑Food’s entrance into the global halal market.”
