Spring’s signature wild green, chamchwi, is officially hitting the market in Taean, South Chungcheong Province—and shoppers are paying attention.

Taean County announced on March 20 that chamchwi grown across Nam-myeon’s Woncheong-ri began shipping in early March and will continue to be supplied through mid-May.

Rich in nutrients like potassium and vitamin A, chamchwi is prized for its fragrant aroma and tender texture. It’s a healthful spring pick that consistently wins fans for its fresh, mouthwatering flavor.

Thirteen farms in Nam-myeon cultivate chamchwi across roughly 10 hectares (about 24.7 acres), and they now ship an average of about one ton (approximately 2,205 lb) per day—bringing welcome income to local growers.

What sets Taean chamchwi apart is how quickly it’s sorted and dispatched right after harvest, which preserves freshness and gives the greens a stronger aroma.

The harvest goes to wholesale markets around the country, including Seoul’s Garak-dong wholesale market and outlets in Guri City. A 4 kg box (about 8.8 lb) typically sells for 20,000–25,000 KRW (approximately $15–$18.75 USD).

Officials expect the 2026 Taean International Horticultural Therapy Expo to spotlight the quality of local produce like chamchwi and help boost farm incomes.

“Taean chamchwi blends nutrition and flavor as a must-try spring food,” a county official said, inviting visitors to experience the variety of Taean-grown produce at the expo.
