Nam-myeon in Taean County is buzzing with shipments of chwinamul, the season’s must-have spring green. Health-conscious shoppers hunting for fresh, in-season eats are paying close attention.

Packed with potassium and vitamin A, chwinamul has a strong, alluring scent and a silky, tender bite. It’s a springtime staple that reliably whets the appetite.

According to Taean County, 13 farms around Woncheong-ri in Nam-myeon cultivate and ship chwinamul across roughly 10 hectares (about 24.7 acres) from early March through mid‑May. Daily shipments average around one metric ton.

Taean-grown chwinamul is sorted and sent out right after harvest, so it reaches markets extremely fresh. Fans say the aroma and texture are the big selling points for seasonal-vegetable seekers.

The harvest is supplied to wholesale markets nationwide, including Seoul’s Garak Market and markets in Guri. A 4‑kg box (about 8.8 lb) currently trades for 20,000–25,000 KRW (approximately $15–$18.75 USD).

The county expects the 2026 Taean International Horticultural Therapy Expo to raise awareness of local produce — including chwinamul — and to help boost farm incomes.

A county official said, “Taean chwinamul combines fragrance, texture and nutrition as a spring food,” adding, “We hope the expo will help showcase the excellence of Taean-grown produce.”
