Gwangcheon Byeolmatgim, a specialist in seasoned seaweed snacks, is making a bold move into the Oceania market.

Gwangcheon Byeolmatgim said it was selected for the ‘2026 Australia Market Development Mission,’ a program jointly organized by Hongseong County and the Chungnam Economic Promotion Agency. The company completed a successful three-night, five-day market push based in Sydney from March 16–20.

The mission was designed to tap into Australia’s growing appetite for K-content (Korean pop culture) and the rising popularity of seaweed as a healthy snack.

The biggest payoff from the trip was forging strategic partnerships with major local distributors and logistics firms.

During the mission, Gwangcheon Byeolmatgim signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with three companies—Asiana Foods Pty Ltd, EFL, and YNY Holdings Pty Ltd—to pursue mutual cooperation.

Lee Seong-haeng, CEO of Gwangcheon Byeolmatgim, said, “Participating in the Australia Market Development Mission and signing MOUs with major firms marks a pivotal moment as we push to become a global brand. We won’t stop at exporting products—we’ll act as K-food ambassadors, sharing Korea’s healthy food culture across Oceania.”

Meanwhile, the company plans to fast-track follow-up efforts to convert the export discussions and MOUs into large-scale contracts and local retail listings.
