KBS1’s ‘A Walk Around the Neighborhood’ recently spotlighted Uzbek cuisine and the personal story of an immigrant restaurant owner.
In the episode that aired on May 2, host Lee Man-gi sampled traditional Uzbek dishes in Chungju.
Mina, who moved to Korea after marrying, runs the restaurant. The show followed her as she juggled running the business and raising her son. Lee Man-gi even greeted her son, Muhammad, when he came home from daycare.
The restaurant’s signature items are samsa, a flaky Uzbek pastry, and charcoal-grilled chicken skewers. Though these dishes may be unfamiliar to many, Mina’s cooking has quickly won over Korean diners.
Mina says she’s even preparing her son to take Korea’s naturalization test.
