When a pet owner came back after leaving their dogs home alone, opening the front door nearly made their heart stop.

The living room floor was splattered with a vivid reddish‑purple liquid, and one of the dogs lay motionless in the middle of it.

The story, picked up by The Straits Times and other outlets, was shared by a netizen living in Kuching, Malaysia.

At first, the owner was terrified—seeing the house in disarray and dark purple stains made them worry a terrible accident or crime had occurred.

But the scare didn’t last long. The dog heard the owner arrive, casually got up, and everything suddenly made sense.

On closer inspection, the scene wasn’t a tragedy at all — it was dragon fruit.

The two dogs left to guard the house had been playing with a red‑fleshed dragon fruit like it was a toy. The juice splattered across the room and stained their fur.

Red‑fleshed dragon fruit has deep reddish‑purple flesh and very strong pigments, so once it stains something, it’s tough to remove.

In the photos, the dogs’ white fur was splashed with pink and purple, making them look like they’d been dyed at a quirky pet salon.

The owner heaved a huge sigh of relief, but the dragon fruit’s pigment didn’t wash out quickly — so the pups stayed “purple” for a while even after baths.

The owner’s takeaway? If you keep dragon fruit at home, hide it where curious paws can’t reach—sound advice with a smile.
