[Herald Economy (Chilgok) = Reporter Kim Byung-jin] The Chilgok County chapter of the Saemaeul Book Club marked Children’s Day by hosting a heartwarming book giveaway at the Chilgok rest area on the Seoul-bound Gyeongbu Expressway on the morning of the 4th.
The event kicked off at 10 a.m., and families kept coming, eager to pick up books for their children.
Volunteers put together 600 books for distribution, selecting only A-grade titles in good condition from members’ home collections.
They collected books that had been read to kids or shelved after finishing, excluding any that were worn or damaged, and thoroughly disinfected each volume before handing them out.
Kim Myung-shin, president of the Chilgok County Saemaeul Book Club, along with 14 members, staffed the event and distributed the books. Woo Chung-gi, president of the Chilgok County Saemaeul Association, also attended.
\”For Children’s Day, we wanted to give kids a bigger world, not just toys,\” Kim said. \”Books aren’t a one-time gift — they grow a child’s mind and heart and last the longest.\”
