If you share your home with a dog, you’ve probably switched their food at least once—health reasons, picky phases, or just trying something new. But asking a pup to give up a flavor they’ve loved for years? That can be unexpectedly dramatic.

One white dog made its displeasure about its owner’s unilateral decision obvious with its whole body, and the photo has been making pet parents online smile.

Recently, a photo of a dog offering a quiet but unmistakable protest after its owner changed its food went viral. The shot shows a fluffy Maltese standing frozen in front of its bowl, looking thoroughly confused.

The green bowl is filled with kibble that should smell tempting, but this pup’s reaction is stone-cold. It won’t touch the food and instead shoots the person holding the camera a deeply furrowed, offended look.

Those big, dark eyes brim with accusation, as if to say, “Where’s my usual tasty food, and why is this weird stuff in my bowl?”

When owners switch a dog’s food, pups usually sniff it, walk away, or even nudge the bowl—small acts of culinary protest. This little dog, however, stares down its human and sums up its feelings with a single expression.

Its eyes look glossy, like it’s about to cry, and the drooped tail amps up the sad-vibes, making viewers feel a little guilty for the switch.

These babyish sulks dogs throw while adjusting to new food are oddly endearing and totally relatable—entertaining for people of all ages.

People who saw the adorable food-strike photo flooded the comments with playful scolding and sympathy: “That expression is so human,” “You should mix in a tasty topper,” and “Even sulking, it’s unbearably cute.”
