[Sports Seoul | Reporter Wi Su-jeong] MOSU Seoul, a celebrated fine-dining restaurant in Seoul, is accused of serving the wrong wine vintage — an allegation that has exploded across online communities. The restaurant is run by Chef Ahn Seong-jae, who gained wider recognition from the Netflix series Black-and-White Chef.

On the 21st, a post titled “MOSU swapped the Château Léoville Barton vintage on me” appeared on an online forum. The poster, who goes by “A,” laid out a detailed account of a wine-pairing incident and raised questions about how the restaurant handled it.

According to A, he ordered an expensive bottle but was served a different vintage. The sommelier presented and described what he said was a 2005 vintage, while the restaurant’s pairing list showed a 2000 vintage. A noticed the wine’s taste and aroma were unlike what he expected and only discovered the vintage mix-up after asking to confirm.

The matter grew more contentious because the two vintages differ in price by about 100,000 KRW (approximately 75 USD), and because of the restaurant’s follow-up response. A says that when he asked the sommelier to confirm the vintage, the sommelier changed his story, claiming the 2000 bottle had been taken to the first floor. A also says that after he requested to photograph the served bottle, the sommelier brought out a 2000 vintage and placed it on the table — which made him suspect the staff knew the wine was wrong from the start.

A criticized the response, saying he finds it hard to accept that a sommelier at a two-Michelin-star restaurant would make such a mistake. He added he was disappointed that staff never apologized and instead replied, “I’ll let you taste it.”

The case has become a hot topic online, igniting heated debate among netizens. Some argue that fine-dining establishments charging premium prices must uphold strict service standards, while others say people should remain neutral until the restaurant issues an official statement.

Meanwhile, MOSU Seoul has not released an official response regarding the controversy. wsj0114@sportsseoul.com
