DIY Toilet Cleaner

DIY

Believe it or not, mixing baking soda with toothpaste and tucking it into your toilet can zap stains and freshen things up. This budget-friendly, at-home trick uses items you probably already have in your bathroom to make toilet maintenance effortless.

The problem

Everyday use leaves the bowl prone to grime and bacteria if it isn’t cleaned often. Regular upkeep matters. A simple cleaning sachet helps keep the toilet looking and smelling fresher between deep cleans.

How to make it

Start by gathering: baking soda, toothpaste, and a reusable tea bag or muslin sachet. An old or rarely used tube of toothpaste works perfectly.

In a large bowl, combine baking soda and toothpaste in a 2:1 ratio. The amount shown in the photos makes roughly two uses.

If the mixture is stubborn, slip on disposable gloves and knead it by hand until it comes together.

Roll the paste into small, round balls. If any are oversized, split them in half so they fit comfortably in the sachet.

Place the balls inside the tea bag pouch and close it. Poke a small hole at one end to thread a string through.

Thread a string through the hole and tie it tightly so the pouch won’t come undone or float away.

Lift the toilet lid and drop the sachet into the bowl water. Secure the string so the pouch stays in place.

As the sachet slowly dissolves, each flush releases a bit of the cleaning solution to help rinse the bowl.

One sachet usually lasts about a week. Swap it out weekly for consistently fresh results—easy, affordable maintenance that actually works.
