How to Remove Silver Tarnish

은-세척-닦는법

Here’s a simple at-home trick: line a bowl with aluminum foil, add hot water and a pinch of salt or baking soda, and watch tarnished silver come back to life. If your favorite pieces have dulled and you’re not sure how to clean them, this quick method gets them shining again without special cleaners.

1. Prepare the foil

Start with a bowl and a sheet of aluminum foil. Tear off enough foil to line the bowl and press it so it covers the bottom and sides. This keeps the water contained and makes the setup stable while the reaction works.

2. Add the ingredients

Pour in hot water, then add salt or baking soda—either will do. Use an appropriate amount depending on the bowl size; you can mix both if you like. The combination with the foil creates a gentle chemical reaction that lifts the tarnish.

With the foil in place, add the hot water and stir in the salt or baking soda until dissolved. The water should be hot but not boiling.

3. Clean the tarnished silver

Place the tarnished silver into the bowl—rings, bracelets, and small flat items work best. I dropped a ring in myself. Let the piece soak for about 20–30 minutes while the tarnish loosens.

After soaking, lift the piece out and gently dry and buff it with a soft tissue or cloth. You’ll notice the dark film rub off and the shine return.

Look at the before-and-after: the left image shows the piece before cleaning, and the right shows it after. The dull, lifeless look is gone and the silver sparkles again—instant glow-up for your jewelry.

That’s it—aluminum foil, salt, and baking soda are all you need to remove tarnish and refresh silver at home. Try it out and enjoy the shine.
