Kim Min-ju Opens Up About Her First Leading Role in JTBC’s “Shining”
SEOUL – Rising star Kim Min-ju shared her thoughts on landing her first leading role in the highly anticipated JTBC drama “Shining” during a press conference held at The Link Hotel Seoul on the 5th. The event was attended by director Kim Yoon-jin and co-star Park Jin-young, with veteran broadcaster Park Kyung-lim moderating.
Despite the pressure of her first lead role, Kim expressed gratitude for the supportive environment on set. “The incredible staff, our director, and my fellow cast members were my pillars of strength throughout this journey,” Kim revealed. “Their support allowed me to fully immerse myself in the character of Eun-ah without feeling overwhelmed.”
When asked about her hopes for audience reception, Kim shared, “We’ve captured facets of my acting that viewers haven’t seen before. I’m excited for them to discover these new sides of me and hope they’ll appreciate the range.”
Park Jin-young, who boasts a dual career as both an idol and actor, emphasized the collaborative atmosphere on set. “While I may be her senior in the music industry, on set we were true peers,” Park explained. “This dynamic fostered a really comfortable working environment.”
Praising his co-star’s performance, Park added, “In my experience, successful on-screen romance isn’t about individual skill – it’s about chemistry. From day one, Kim embodied the essence of Mo Eun-ah. Her natural inhabitation of the character instantly earned my trust.”
Visibly moved by Park’s words, Kim expressed her appreciation: “Park’s approach of treating me as both a colleague and as Eun-ah was incredibly helpful. That sense of ease was invaluable to my performance.”
“Shining,” penned by Lee Sook-yeon and helmed by Kim Yoon-jin, explores the journey of two young individuals who once shared an exclusive bond, as they evolve to become each other’s guiding light and source of trust. The series premieres tomorrow (the 6th) and will air two back-to-back episodes every Friday at 8:50 p.m. KST on JTBC.
