Park Jin-young, star of the upcoming drama “Shining,” revealed he strived to maintain objectivity despite the acclaim his previous work received.
The press conference for JTBC’s new Friday series “Shining” took place on the afternoon of the 5th at The Link Hotel Seoul. Director Kim Yoon-jin was joined by actors Park Jin-young and Kim Min-ju, with TV personality Park Kyung-lim moderating the event.
Park garnered significant praise for his role in last year’s hit drama “Unknown Seoul.” This success naturally led to speculation about potential pressure for his next project.
Addressing this, Park candidly admitted, “It would be dishonest to claim I feel no nerves or pressure.” However, he added, “I believed the best approach for this new project was to set those feelings aside as much as possible.” He continued, “While I’m deeply grateful for the love the previous work received, I made a conscious effort to shed that pressure and tackle this project with a fresh perspective.”
When asked about the differences between this role and his previous work, Park explained, “Although my last project had romantic elements, it primarily focused on the female character’s growth, with my character in a supporting role. ‘Shining,’ on the other hand, presents a classic melodrama centered on a love story between a man and a woman.”
Discussing his acting approach, Park shared, “Rather than focusing on dramatic events, I wanted to hone in on how Eun-ah and Tae-seo react to situations. To me, our drama portrays the small, relatable love stories that anyone might recognize. I aimed to capture moments that would make viewers think, ‘I’ve been there too.'”
“Shining,” penned by Lee Sook-yeon and helmed by Kim Yoon-jin, follows young individuals who once shared an intimate world as they gradually become beacons of trust and direction in each other’s lives. The series premieres tomorrow (the 6th) and will air two back-to-back episodes every Friday at 8:50 p.m.
