[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] The Shin I-rang Law Office is finally opening its doors.

SBS’s new Friday–Saturday drama Shin I-rang Law Office centers on Shin I-rang, a lawyer who becomes possessed and settles the unresolved grievances of the dead, and Han Na-hyun, a ruthless elite litigator who puts everything on the line to win. The series mixes offbeat humor with genuine warmth in a cathartic, genre-bending adventure.

Early teasers and promotional images hinted at a fresh take on courtroom drama and injected lively energy that has viewers intrigued. Ahead of its premiere, here are three reasons to tune in that highlight what makes this show unique.

◆ An evolution of SBS’s punchy courtroom dramas: an unprecedented world built around a possessed lawyer

Shin I-rang Law Office follows in the footsteps of SBS courtroom hits that lean into genre thrills—think A Thousand-Won Lawyer and The Judge From Hell—but it takes that DNA a step further. By adding the fantasy element of the dead’s lingering grudges to the inherently realistic setting of the courtroom, the show expands the boundaries of what a legal drama can be.

When someone dies unjustly, they can’t speak for themselves. What’s left behind are misunderstandings, distortions and unresolved resentment. The series begins there: it pulls out truths the legal system missed through ghostly testimony, then delivers payoffs with brisk, dynamic courtroom sequences. This is not a show that ends at a verdict; it also tends to the emotional wounds and injustices left behind, blending grief-driven resolution with legal argument in a fresh take on the genre. The catharsis that emerges where the real and the supernatural intersect is poised to be the show’s distinctive appeal.

◆ Yoo Yeon-seok’s radical reinvention: a parade of possessed alter egos

Yoo Yeon-seok’s Shin I-rang rents Office 501 in the Okcheon Building, a space with a history as a shaman’s house. He soon finds himself thrust into the supernatural: he begins seeing ghosts and eventually becomes susceptible to possession, forced to settle the grudges of the dead. The irony of a lawyer—whose work demands cold logic—transforming into a vessel for spirits is a central source of the character’s intrigue.

With the dead guiding him, Shin I-rang can snag crucial clues; when possession takes over, his speech, expressions and movements shift completely. Each episode pits him against different deceased personalities, promising what could be Yoo Yeon-seok’s most adventurous parade of alternate personas yet. This also marks his first significant comedic turn, oscillating between solemnity and sly humor, which raises expectations. Driven by a nature that won’t let him look away, Shin I-rang keeps getting pulled into cases he never intended to take—becoming a reluctant hero whose courtroom battles deliver both cathartic thrills and genuine emotional beats.

◆ Intuition vs. logic: Yoo Yeon-seok and Esom’s ‘Courtroom Avengers’ chemistry

The character chemistry is another key draw. Shin I-rang leans on intuition and emotion, while Han Na-hyun (Esom) relies on razor-sharp logic. That contrast injects sustained tension into the series. Watching these two, initially at odds, learn to solve cases together and evolve makes for compelling drama.

Yang Do-kyung (Kim Kyung-nam), the head of law firm Taebaek, serves as the show’s antagonistic fulcrum. He treats the law as a strategic tool for winning and continually challenges Shin I-rang’s methods, sharpening their rivalry. His complex relationship with Han Na-hyun adds another layer of psychological maneuvering that deepens the storytelling beyond individual cases.

The ensemble further includes brother-in-law and office manager Yoon Bong-su (Jeon Seok-ho), Father Matteo (Jung Seung-gil), who points the team in the right direction at key moments, and a rotating cast of deceased clients with their own backstories. With these recurring guest turns, Room 501 of the Okcheon Building gradually coalesces into a cohesive unit. Their varied perspectives and tactics combine into a cooperative dynamic that has a “Courtroom Avengers” feel.

Fast-paced banter, unpredictable teamwork, and Shin I-rang’s shifting alt-egos across cases come together to deliver an undeniably entertaining, slightly possessed ride. SBS’s new Friday–Saturday drama Shin I-rang Law Office premieres tonight (the 13th) at 9:50 p.m.
