How Jo Bok-dong Revolutionized Korean Animation: A Tribute to the ‘Robot Taekwon V’ Creator

[Sports Seoul | Reporter Park Kyung-ho] Director Jo Bok-dong, best known for the animated feature Robot Taekwon V, died on the 12th at the age of 76.
Born in 1950, Jo began his career in film in 1972 as a cameraman on the animated feature Monster War.
He rose to prominence in 1976 with Robot Taekwon V. Over the years he shot a range of animated projects, including Arisubyeon’s Dream Tree, Blue Seagirl and Armageddon. In 1988 he served as the founding president of the Korea Association of Animation Cameramen.
In 2005, the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF) honored him with a service award in recognition of his contributions.
His wake is being held in Funeral Room 13 at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital. The funeral service will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the 15th, followed by burial at Pocheon Jaerim Park Cemetery. park5544@sportsseoul.com
