[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] Arden Cho, who voices the protagonist Rumi in the animated feature K-Pop Demon Hunters (hereafter KPDH), spoke emotionally after the film’s big night.
On March 15 (local time) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, KPDH won both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the 98th Academy Awards, walking away with two Oscars.
Recalling the moment she accepted the award, Cho said, “It was a historic moment for all of us. As a Korean, as a Korean‑American, and as a woman, we made new history at the Oscars. Seeing the ‘Golden’ performance rooted in Korean music and culture was deeply moving — I couldn’t stop crying the whole time.”
She praised director Maggie Kang’s remarks onstage, saying they “perfectly captured the heart of the film,” and added that listening to Kang felt like her inner child was being healed in real time.
Cho also expressed gratitude, noting that KPDH is more than an animated movie: it channels Korean music and culture and the passion of global fans. “I sincerely thank everyone on the cast and crew who shared this journey, and the fans around the world who sent us their love,” she said.
