[Sports Seoul | Reporter Choi Seung-seop] Actor Ryu Soo-young made a point of attending his wife Park Ha-sun’s stage performance in person, cheering enthusiastically and reaffirming their status as one of Korea’s most admired celebrity couples.
On April 12, Ryu posted a verified clip to his social media from the CJ Towol Theater at the Seoul Arts Center, where the play Hongdo is currently running.
In the footage, Ryu stands beside Park Ha-sun holding a bouquet and gifts, beaming as the couple exchanged hand-heart gestures and radiated a warm, affectionate energy that drew admiring looks from those around them.
In his caption, Ryu wrote, “I laughed out loud and then sobbed. The acting and the story are both outstanding.” He went on to praise Park’s tireless preparation—practicing late into the night until her voice was hoarse—calling her dedication both poignant and impressive, and expressing clear respect and affection for his wife’s work as an actress.

Veteran actress Ha Hee-ra also attended the performance with her husband Choi Soo-jong to show support.
Ha praised her fellow cast members Jung Bo-seok and Park Ha-sun, saying, “The final scene still stays with me. I was very moved by the actors performing on stage without microphones.” In a released photo, the four look toward the camera with bright expressions, as if the performance’s emotional afterglow were still present, suggesting a strong, cross-generational camaraderie among them.
Hongdo is director Go Seon-woong’s modern reinterpretation of the 1930s melodrama 사랑에 속고 돈에 울고 (Fooled by Love, Crying for Money). The production centers on the tragic love of its protagonist, Hongdo, who sacrifices everything for her family, delivering a resonant emotional impact to audiences.
Hongdo runs at the CJ Towol Theater at the Seoul Arts Center through the 26th, before moving on to performances in Daegu and Ansan. thunder@sportsseoul.com
