President Lee took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing satisfaction at the opportunity to reconnect with Secretary General Rutte after a seven-month hiatus since their last discussion in July.

“We reached a consensus on the necessity for South Korea and NATO to collaborate closely in addressing global security challenges more effectively,” Lee stated. “We’ve committed to maintaining ongoing communication.”

The President reported that Secretary General Rutte commended South Korea’s robust defense industry capabilities and pledged continued support for strengthening defense cooperation between South Korea and NATO.

“Given our mutual agreement to expand practical cooperation across various domains, including defense, space, and intelligence sharing, I anticipate the South Korea-NATO relationship will continue to solidify,” Lee remarked.
