\”When a report indicates an object may be an explosive, a single moment’s judgment can make the difference for public safety.\”

From 2 p.m. on the 17th, the Pyeongtaek Police Department staged a field training exercise (FTX) on the roadside near 44 Dongchang-ri in Paengseong-eup to simulate the discovery of an explosive device.

The exercise recreated realistic conditions to test initial response procedures and interagency coordination.

The drill opened with a report that a suspicious object had been found near the security center.

Responding officers immediately secured the scene, establishing a cordon and halting vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Police tactical units and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team then moved in to conduct a deliberate, measured response.

Onsite technicians used X-ray inspection equipment to analyze the object and followed established response procedures under tense conditions, treating the item as if it were an explosive.

The team carried out a controlled neutralization and removal using bomb disposal equipment, mirroring real-world procedures to evaluate both speed and safety.

The exercise gave the department a chance to reassess the full response chain—from initial containment to technical disposal—and officials said it strengthened their ability to protect civilians in similar incidents.

Officials said the department will continue conducting realistic drills to sharpen crisis-response capabilities.

“Finding an explosive can create chaos at the scene,” Chief Maeng said. “That’s why it’s critical to regularly validate our response procedures with exercises that closely mirror real operations.”

“We will keep running practical, operations-focused drills to minimize public alarm and ensure community safety,” he added.
