President Donald Trump warned he would strike Iran’s key energy facilities if talks to end hostilities collapse.

On March 30 (local time), Trump posted on Truth Social that the United States is in serious talks with what he described as a more reasonable new regime to end military operations inside Iran, and that significant progress had been made. He warned, “If we do not reach an agreement or the Strait of Hormuz does not immediately return to normal transit, we will blow up and completely destroy every power plant, oil field and Kharg Island in Iran that we have intentionally left alone until now.” He added the strikes might even include seawater desalination facilities.

He framed the moves as retaliation for U.S. service members and others who, he said, were sacrificed over decades of Iranian rule.

Analysts called the remarks a sharp warning to Tehran and said they signaled that the U.S. could seek to resolve the standoff through military action without a separate ceasefire agreement.

Earlier, Trump had set an initial deadline of March 27 for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, then extended that deadline to April 6.

In an interview with the Financial Times a day earlier, he warned that if Iran did not accept an end-of-hostilities agreement by April 6, the U.S. could strike the energy sector. He said U.S. forces had already struck about 13,000 targets and that roughly 3,000 targets remained.
