Russia to Evacuate Over 200 Staff from Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Plant: What It Means for Regional Stability

Russian outlets report that Moscow plans to withdraw personnel from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant and will ask parties operating in the area to refrain from hostilities during the movement.
On the 2nd (local time), TASS quoted Alexei Likhachev, CEO of state nuclear firm Rosatom, saying the final evacuation of more than 200 staff is scheduled for next week.
Likhachev said Russian personnel remain at the operating Unit 1 at Bushehr and that Rosatom has notified Russian President Vladimir Putin of the evacuation plan.
He said Rosatom cannot yet disclose an exact withdrawal timeline but will provide movement routes to Israeli and U.S. authorities and ask that they avoid engaging while convoys are in transit.
The Rosatom-built reactor in southern Iran’s Bushehr was repeatedly targeted by airstrikes last month. International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi has warned that continued attacks on the facility could increase the risk of a radiological incident.
