President Donald Trump warned Iran on April 4 (local time), saying, “You do not have much time. You have 48 hours until the gates of hell open.”

In a post on his social platform Truth Social that day, Trump wrote, “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to accept the U.S. terms for ending hostilities or to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.”

Analysts read the post as a reminder that he had set a deadline for an agreement that would expire two days later — on April 6.

Trump had originally set March 27 as the deadline and warned he would strike Iran’s power plants if Tehran did not comply; he later extended that deadline by ten days to April 6.

On March 30, he warned that if no deal materialized, “we will blow up all their power plants, oil wells, and Harg Island (probably including all desalination facilities), and by utterly destroying them we will end our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran.”

In a nationwide address on April 1, he added, “Over the next two to three weeks, we will deliver extremely powerful strikes against Iran,” and said, “We will return them to the Stone Age.”
