SNT Dynamics unveiled a next-generation mortar system at the Republic of Korea Marine Corps’ founding anniversary, fueling expectations the service will adopt it.

SNT Dynamics displayed a 120 mm (4.72 in) mortar system mounted on a Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV) at the Marine Corps’ 77th founding anniversary ceremony, held April 15–16 at the Marine Corps Headquarters in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

The system is the latest weapon developed under a rapid demonstration project conducted jointly by the Marine Corps and the Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Institute.

SNT Dynamics and its partners have completed firing trials and other performance checks. The Marine Corps plans a trial operational evaluation in the second half of this year before formally fielding the system.

The mortar preserves the firepower and accuracy of a standard 120 mm (4.72 in) system while cutting weight to allow mounting on light tactical vehicles, significantly improving tactical mobility.

It was designed for stable operation on sandy coastal terrain and for transport by hovercraft and helicopter to support sea and air lift operations.

That mobility makes it a candidate for a rapid-response core capability in key Marine missions, including amphibious assaults and coastal defense.

SNT Dynamics’ earlier 120 mm (4.72 in) mortar system entered service with the Republic of Korea Army in 2022 under the name “Bigeok.” Its scalability to various tactical vehicles and naval platforms has attracted attention from military officials at home and abroad.
