75 Years After the Korean War: Key Insights from the Commonwealth Army Chiefs on Regional Security

Daniel Kim Views

Translation result김규하 Army Chief of Staff Kim Gyu-ha invited the army chiefs of staff from four Commonwealth nations—the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand—to Gyeryongdae in Chungcheongnam-do on April 23, the Army said. They discussed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to deepen military cooperation.

The four Commonwealth countries that deployed forces to Korea under U.N. authorization during the Korean War hold annual commemorations each April timed to the Battle of Gapyeong. To mark the 75th anniversary this year, the four army chiefs of staff visited South Korea together for the first time.

Kim expressed deep gratitude for the nations’ sacrifice and dedication, saying their commitment helped lay the foundation for South Korea’s development and prosperity.

Participants agreed that close cooperation among allies is increasingly important to preserve peace and stability on the peninsula and to respond to regional security challenges. They pledged to maintain military cooperation through army-level meetings, high-level exchanges and joint exercises.

Kim is scheduled to attend the 75th anniversary commemoration for the Battle of Gapyeong at the Commonwealth War Memorial in Gapyeong on April 24 to pay tribute to veterans and bereaved families.
