Is GPS Obsolete? Discover NorthStrive’s Groundbreaking Drone Navigation Solution for 2026

Translation result.PMGC Holdings (ELAB, PMGC Holdings Inc.) said its wholly owned unit, NorthStrive Defense Tech LLC, has secured an option to license U.S.-patented autonomous navigation technology for drones.

According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, on April 23, 2026, NorthStrive Defense Tech obtained the license option through an exclusive option agreement covering U.S. patent rights to the autonomous navigation system.

The technology is designed to enable unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and drones to autonomously determine position and navigate in GPS-jammed or degraded environments, addressing a critical capability gap identified by the U.S. Department of Defense and allied defense programs worldwide.

Under the option agreement, NorthStrive holds an exclusive option to obtain an exclusive license to certain patent rights, including a cooperative navigation system intended for UAS operating where GPS is denied or unreliable.

The system relies on onboard cameras and inertial sensors to estimate a vehicle’s position relative to the local environment, allowing accurate navigation without GPS signals.

It employs visual-inertial odometry (VIO) and sensor-fusion techniques to provide real-time state estimation and enable aircraft to share navigational data.

Recent conflicts have demonstrated that GPS signals can be compromised in contested environments, making GPS-denied navigation a priority for U.S. defense modernization and NATO allies.

Market forecasts project the GPS-denied drone navigation sector will grow at a compound annual rate of about 31.7% through 2030.

Potential capabilities of the technology include vision- and inertial-based navigation that does not require GPS, cooperative swarm positioning, and a scalable architecture for integration with AI-enabled autonomous systems.

NorthStrive says the technology could directly address navigation shortfalls in defense, counter-drone, and electronic warfare missions.

The company plans to evaluate the technology, validate operational use cases, and collaborate with potential strategic and government partners.

If NorthStrive exercises the option, it intends to secure commercialization rights and negotiate a final license agreement to advance the technology.

The company cautioned, however, that there is no guarantee the parties will reach a final license agreement or that the technology will be successfully developed or commercialized.

PMGC Holdings is a diversified holding company that manages and grows a portfolio across multiple industries through strategic acquisitions, investments, and development. The company says it pursues cross-sector opportunities to maximize growth and shareholder value.
