As the fragile cease-fire between the United States and Iran remains unstable, the U.S. Navy has moved a third aircraft carrier closer to the Middle East. CNN reported on April 23, citing photos posted to the Department of Defense website, that the USS George H.W. Bush has been in the Indian Ocean since April 21.The Navy plans to add dozens of additional military aircraft that could be employed if the cease-fire collapses or to support a blockade of Iranian ports. Officials have not disclosed the carrier’s precise location in the Indian Ocean. One photo on the Pentagon’s website was captioned as showing the ship in the Indian Ocean on April 17.The Bush sailed from Naval Station Norfolk on March 31 and reportedly transited near the Cape of Good Hope on April 17. CNN noted the U.S. Navy fields 11 aircraft carriers but currently has only four operational because others are undergoing maintenance or training. If the Bush joins the forward-deployed force, three of the Navy’s four operational carriers would be committed to any potential conflict with Iran.#U.S. #AircraftCarrier #Iran #MiddleEast Yonhap News TV — story tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/Line jebo23 Choi Jin‑kyung (highjean@yna.co.kr)
