Kim Jong Un watched a mortar-firing competition on April 25 — the date the regime marks as the founding day of the anti-Japanese partisan force it cites as the Korean People’s Army’s origin.

KCNA reported April 26 that Kim visited a combined unit under the Western Military District’s mechanized infantry division on April 25 to mark the 94th anniversary of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army and to encourage the troops.

He laid a wreath at a monument honoring Kim Il‑sung’s achievements, observed a moment of silence and toured the Revolutionary History Exhibition.

Kim said the ideological sharpening of soldiers is the Party’s immutable concept for building a strong military and its view of war — describing it as the “sword of invincible victory.” He added that only a force ideologically hardened and constantly aware of its bloodline and roots can decisively crush any foe.

He then issued directives, saying the combined unit must set the standard across the armed forces in political‑ideological work and in achieving full combat readiness, consistent with its role and status.

Kim observed the mortar competition by infantry mortar units assigned to various combined commands. He was accompanied by Defense Minister No Kwang‑chol, Chief of the General Staff Ri Yong‑gil, Director of the General Political Bureau Kim Seong‑gi, and other military and political leaders.

Satisfied with the results, Kim ordered that combat training be organized and conducted with a primary focus on building the combat power needed to completely annihilate an enemy by fully implementing the Party’s military strategy and the requirements of the Juche method of warfare. He urged all units, organized by echelon and specialty, to intensify training competitions and exercises.

The Korean People’s Revolutionary Army refers to the partisan units Kim Il‑sung is said to have organized while conducting anti‑Japanese operations in Manchuria. Since 1978, North Korea has observed April 25, 1932 — the Revolutionary Army’s founding date — as the military’s founding anniversary and has held commemorative events.
