HMM said the cargo ship it operates that caught fire while anchored in the Strait of Hormuz is running an emergency generator and awaiting a tug. On May 5, the company reported that the HMM NAMU remained on standby in waters near the United Arab Emirates, where the blaze occurred the previous day.The fire triggered an automatic power cutoff, leaving the vessel without propulsion. Once a tug is secured, HMM plans to move the ship to the nearest port, Dubai, for damage assessment and a formal investigation. After the vessel is moved, the six South Korean crew members are expected to return home.HMM said all 24 crew members, including South Korean nationals, remain on board and have not suffered major injuries. An HMM official added that while the crew could disembark immediately if they chose, they appear to have elected to stay aboard because the fire has been extinguished and no further risks have been identified.From its ship operations center in Busan, HMM has been coordinating the sourcing of tugboats in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other nearby locations.
