The government said the fire aboard a South Korean vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on the 4th resulted from a strike by an unidentified aerial vehicle.  The Foreign Ministry on the 10th released the joint government investigation findings and published photos taken by the on-site investigation team. Yonhap News

Debris from the unidentified aerial vehicle that struck a South Korean ship in the Strait of Hormuz was flown back to South Korea.

On May 15, the Foreign Ministry said it coordinated with the United Arab Emirates government to transfer the wreckage by air and that specialized agencies will perform a detailed forensic analysis.

The government said it will hand the recovered debris to military investigative agencies, including the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), to identify the type of aerial system used and reconstruct the sequence of the attack.

On May 4, the South Korean container ship HMM Namu suffered an explosion and fire while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Field investigators later concluded the damage was caused by strikes from two unidentified aerial vehicles.

A senior government official said Defense Ministry investigative units will conduct a thorough probe to resolve outstanding questions.
