South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT has teamed up with OpenAI to address growing AI-related security threats. The ministry said it held an “AI Security Working Workshop” on May 18 with OpenAI and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Intelligence Service, the Financial Services Commission, the National AI Strategy Committee, the AI Safety Research Institute, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and the Financial Security Institute.OpenAI recently previewed a security-focused model called GPT-5.5-Cyber and has been expanding its Trust-based Cyber Access Program (TAC), which grants restricted access to vetted partners. South Korean officials said the government has not yet joined TAC.At the workshop, Sasha Baker, OpenAI’s head of national security policy, briefed Korean officials on TAC, demonstrated key cybersecurity capabilities of the latest AI models, and discussed frameworks for closer cooperation on AI security. The ministry asked OpenAI to increase information sharing and operational cooperation to counter AI-enabled threats. Both sides agreed to continue active, practical discussions on using AI models in cyber defense.Separately, the government is engaging Anthropic—the developer of the high-performance AI security model Mitos—about joining a joint security-response coalition known as Project Glasswing.#OpenAI #SecurityThreats Yonhap News TV inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/Line jebo23, Moon Hyung-min (moonbro@yna.co.kr)
