The Wall Street Journal reported May 19, citing multiple U.S. officials, that U.S. forces seized a tanker in the Indian Ocean that was subject to U.S. sanctions and suspected of transporting Iranian crude. The vessel, identified as the Skywave, was underway west of Malaysia after transiting the Strait of Malacca the night before the seizure. The WSJ reported that investigators estimate the ship loaded more than 1 million barrels of crude at Iran’s Kharg Island export terminal in February, prior to recent U.S. strikes on Iranian targets. Washington added the Skywave to its Iran-related sanctions list in March. The interception marks the third known case of U.S. forces seizing a ship from the so-called “shadow fleet” suspected of carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean. Last month, U.S. forces apprehended two stateless, sanctioned tankers bound for China — the Tiffany and the Majestic X — both reportedly carrying Iranian crude. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he had ordered the military not to carry out an attack scheduled for the 19th at the request of Gulf leaders. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he could resume strikes as soon as two to three days, or early next week, if negotiations with Iran do not make progress. #USMilitary #Tanker #Seizure #IndianOcean #IranWar #MiddleEastWar Yonhap News TV — For story inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/Line jebo23; Jang Hyo-in (hijang@yna.co.kr)
