U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on the 8th local time that it disabled two Iranian tankers attempting to break through a U.S. maritime blockade and enter a port in the Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM posted on X that F/A-18 Super Hornets launched from the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush fired precision-guided munitions at the tankers’ exhaust stacks. The command said the two unladen tankers, Sistar III and Sevda, were struck and emitted thick black smoke; CENTCOM released video showing the burning vessels. CENTCOM also said that on the 6th, a Super Hornet from USS Abraham Lincoln disabled the rudder of the Iranian-flagged, unladen tanker Hasna as it was heading for a Gulf of Oman port. CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper said U.S. forces in the region will continue to enforce a strict blockade on vessels to and from Iran. “Our highly trained service members are performing remarkably,” he said. Earlier, Fox News reported that U.S. forces carried out additional strikes that day on several tankers that tried to breach the blockade. CENTCOM said it is currently blocking about 70 tankers attempting to access Iranian ports. Those ships are carrying 166 million barrels of Iranian crude oil valued at more than 19.03 trillion KRW (about 13 billion USD). The command added that roughly 50 merchant vessels have altered course under CENTCOM’s guidance. #U.S. #Iran Yonhap News TV — Report tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/Line jebo23; Hye-jun Lim (junelim@yna.co.kr)
