By Choi Ran, iNews24 — Hanwha Aerospace is partnering with U.S. defense contractor Northrop Grumman to co-develop a new ground-launched long-range missile system.
Hanwha Aerospace said on the 22nd that it signed the MOA on the 21st (local time) at SAS 2026 in National Harbor, Maryland, to collaborate on development of the first-stage solid-fuel rocket motor for the AReS (Advanced Reactive Strike) missile system.
AReS is a ground-launched, long-range missile system under development by Northrop Grumman. The program calls for advanced propulsion to enable rapid maneuvering and quick post-mobilization launches.
Under the agreement, Hanwha Aerospace will participate from the early stages of first-stage rocket motor development. The partners are targeting a demonstration of the jointly developed system in 2027.
A Hanwha Aerospace spokesperson said the collaboration will help further advance the company’s technology and manufacturing capabilities as it seeks entry into the U.S. defense market.
A Northrop Grumman representative said developing weapon systems that preserve the operational advantage of the United States and its allies is critical as air and maritime threats evolve rapidly, and that working with Hanwha Aerospace will deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.
