North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Yellow Sea.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said they detected multiple projectiles, including a short-range ballistic missile, launched from the Jeongju area of North Pyongan Province toward the Yellow Sea at about 1 p.m. on the 26th.

The Joint Chiefs said the missile traveled roughly 80 km, and South Korean and U.S. analysts are conducting a detailed assessment of its exact characteristics.

With the military increasing surveillance and tightening security to guard against additional launches, the Joint Chiefs said South Korea, the U.S. and Japan are closely sharing ballistic-missile intelligence and maintaining a high state of readiness.

This was North Korea’s eighth ballistic-missile launch this year and its first in 37 days.

Earlier, on the 19th of last month, North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles from the Sinpo area in South Hamgyong Province toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan), claiming they were equipped with multiple warheads.
