U.S. Space Force Official Hacked: Pro-Iran Propaganda Targeted Troops

Daniel Kim Views

Translation result기사 Hackers compromised the social media account of a senior U.S. Space Force official and posted propaganda supportive of Iran.

On the 1st (local time), CNN reported that Chief Master Sergeant John Bentivegna’s Instagram account was taken over the previous day and repeatedly used to share pro‑Iran and anti‑U.S. content.

CNN’s analysis found one video used the voice of “Hanoi Hannah,” the infamous Vietnam War‑era psychological‑warfare broadcaster, urging U.S. troops to “abandon ship.”

Bentivegna posted on Facebook asking colleagues not to click any links or engage with the material on his account. A Space Force spokesperson confirmed the account had been hacked but would not identify the perpetrators. The service has previously taken on roles aimed at disrupting Iranian defensive systems.

CNN framed the incident as the latest example of the information warfare unfolding between the U.S. and Iran. At the end of April, U.S. Marines, civilian staff and some family members received threatening messages—apparently from an Iran‑linked hacking group—saying, “We have identified you and are monitoring all your movements.”

In March, Iranian hackers reportedly breached the personal email account of FBI director Kash Patel and leaked old photos and messages. Separately, U.S. Central Command recently told Congress it has received numerous reports warning that adversaries are abusing commercial location data to target or surveil U.S. forces stationed in combat zones.
