[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Seon (runner-up) Heo Chan-mi shared an emotional statement about her journey on ‘Miss Trot 4’.
On the afternoon of the 13th, TV Chosun hosted a press briefing for the Top 5 contestants of ‘Miss Trot 4’ at its Gasan-dong studio in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Jin (winner) Lee So-na, Seon Heo Chan-mi, Mi (third-place) Hong Seong-yun, Gil Ryeo-won and Yoon Tae-hwa.
Heo opened up about why she chose to re-enter ‘Miss Trot 4.’ \”I’ve been performing since I was 13, and over the years I began to doubt myself. This was my fourth time auditioning; three times I fell just short at the final hurdle, and I started to wonder whether I was someone the public could truly love,\” she said. \”I came back because I wanted another chance to earn the public’s affection.\”
She added, \”I prepared harder to show how much I’ve grown. Making the Top 5 was my goal this season, and the process of reaching the finals meant a great deal to me. For that reason, I have no regrets about finishing as Seon.\”
Heo also said she was determined to shake off the \”idol\” label. \”Performance has always been my strength and a weapon, but I felt people only recognized me for that. Hungry to prove my vocal chops, I studied Gyeonggi minyo while preparing for ‘Miss Trot 4.’ I dove deep into traditional trot, researching and practicing intensely. Every stage felt like a final. I pushed myself into genres I hadn’t attempted before. It wasn’t easy — I felt like I had to climb a mountain within myself — so I poured everything into relentless practice and effort,\” she said.
She continued, \”After years as an idol, I worked to break the obsession with perfection and never making mistakes on stage. I decided to try new things even if they invited criticism. I took those risks with everything on the line. When I said I’d quit singing if I didn’t make the top ranks this time, I meant it. More than the Seon result, what’s most significant is that I can continue singing. I’m deeply moved and grateful for the outpouring of support.\”
The ‘Miss Trot’ franchise ignited a nationwide trot revival and remains the original trot audition program in Korea. The fourth season peaked at a 18.4% viewership rating and concluded its four-month run on the 5th.
