[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] The Top 5 from Miss Trot 4 urged fans to look forward to an upcoming spin-off variety show and a nationwide concert tour. After winning broad public affection, the five now face an exciting road ahead.
On the afternoon of the 13th, TV Chosun hosted a press briefing for the Miss Trot 4 Top 5 at its Gasan-dong studio in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. The lineup was led by Jin (眞) Lee So-na and included Seon (善) Heo Chan-mi, Mi (美) Hong Sung-yun, Gil Ryeo-won and Yoon Tae-hwa.
The Miss Trot series is the original trot audition show that helped spark a nationwide trot boom in South Korea. Season four peaked at an 18.4% rating and concluded its four-month run on the 5th.
Lee So-na said the show changed her life. \”I took a leap of faith and competed with everything I had. Winning the title of Jin is an honor beyond words and makes me incredibly happy,\” she said. She added that the competition allowed her to confront old wounds she hadn’t fully recognized before.
Heo Chan-mi admitted the experience still feels surreal but said preparing for Miss Trot 4 reminded her why she endured in music for 20 years. \”I feel grateful that I was able to show what I wanted to show,\” she said, calling each day since the finale meaningful.
Hong Sung-yun also described the run as almost unbelievable. \”It feels like a dream, and if it is a dream, I never want to wake up,\” she said.
Gil Ryeo-won recalled thinking she might be eliminated during the masters’ preliminary round, so she applauded when she thought her time was up. \”I’m thrilled to have been given so many opportunities and to be in the Top 5,\” she said. \”There are so many talented sisters; I didn’t focus on ranking. I just wanted to give a performance I could be proud of. My sister and my mother helped me a lot with advice, which brought me here.\”
Yoon Tae-hwa said her 18 years in the industry made her challenge the competition with even deeper longing. \”Everyone who entered Miss Trot 4 loves trot so much. I’m grateful to be in the Top 5 and will carry that gratitude into my activities,\” she said.

Lee said responsibility drove her to the win. \”I think a sense of responsibility—especially toward my family—fueled my determination,\” she said. Asked about her husband Kang Sang-jun and her family’s reaction, she replied, \”My immediate family was at the venue. We cried and connected through those tears. They’ve supported and celebrated me ever since. Some people even hung banners. I’ve been busy thanking friends and acquaintances.\”

Heo Chan-mi, an audition veteran who previously appeared on Produce 101, Mix Nine and Miss Trot 2, said this Seon placing felt especially significant. \”I’ve been a singer since I was 13 and often doubted myself. After missing the final cut three times, I wondered whether I would ever earn the public’s love. I challenged myself again to try to win that love. I prepared harder to show growth, and simply making the Top 5 was my season goal. Reaching the finals meant a great deal to me, so I have no regrets about finishing as Seon,\” she said.
She added that she wanted to shake off the \”idol\” label. \”People know me for performance and dance, but I craved singing. For Miss Trot 4 I studied Gyeonggi folk songs and dove deep into traditional trot. Every stage felt like a final. I challenged genres I hadn’t attempted before, and it was a steep climb—I trained relentlessly,\” she said.
\”After long years as an idol, I tried to break the perfectionism that made me fear mistakes onstage,\” Heo continued. \”I chose to take risks, even if people criticized me. I was serious when I said I might quit if I didn’t make the Top 5. More than the Seon result, the biggest takeaway is that I can keep singing. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and I’m deeply grateful.\”

Hong Sung-yun said she entered Miss Trot 4 on the recommendation of Choi Jae-myung from Mr. Trot 3. \”Before the final, I talked a lot with my senior. I asked, ‘Will this be hard for me?’ He told me to wait and kept encouraging me through every round. He’s watched me for nearly five years and knows my strengths, so he celebrated more than anyone after the finale,\” she said, laughing. \”I’ll treat him to a proper meal and coffee—hopefully for less than 100,000 KRW (about $75).\”

Gil Ryeo-won tearfully recalled the ace round. \”After the ace round my throat hurt badly. I pushed myself too hard to show something different and made mistakes. Talking about it still brings me to tears—I felt so sorry,\” she said.
She added that, having a shorter career than some of the other contestants, she learned a lot about condition management from them. \”I’m working hard to stay healthy. I’m shy by nature, so I didn’t take the lead much before, but performing with the others gave me confidence. I want to keep honing my singing and dancing to show an even stronger side,\” she said.

Yoon Tae-hwa explained why she chose her final song. \”I’ve fallen short at the finals many times, so I wanted a song that captured my story. The line ‘Now I’m here’ really spoke to me,\” she said. She added that her mother, who had been in a coma, was able to come to the show and enjoyed the upbeat number. \”She has recovered a lot since the coma and was smiling brightly. That made me so happy,\” Yoon said.
The Top 5 will continue with a spin-off program and a nationwide tour in April. Lee So-na said people had compared her to an AI because she aimed for technical perfection. \”On the upcoming spin-off variety show, I’ll show both my singing and my human side. For the tour, we’ll revisit stages from the competition and prepare exclusive concert numbers. I hope many people come to see us,\” she said.
Heo Chan-mi said the spin-off will let them try a variety of genres. \”Since we’ve received so much love across different styles, I want to present diverse stages that viewers of all ages can enjoy,\” she said. About the tour, she added, \”With warmer weather approaching, we’ve prepared performances that will help blow away your stress. Please come and let loose.\”
Hong Sung-yun promised a high-energy show. \”I’ll dance and deliver lively, fun stages at the concert. I do dance a bit—please come and watch,\” she said.
Gil Ryeo-won said they are preparing classic songs fans will enjoy, while Yoon Tae-hwa said she was excited to meet viewers nationwide. \”We’ll bring fun performances that showcase each of our distinct charms and our combined chemistry,\” they said.
