[Sports Today reporter Jeong Ye-won] Our Ballad, returning for a second season, is on the hunt for a new voice to carry the ballad tradition forward.
Last year’s SBS survival series Our Ballad reimagined beloved ballads from across eras, performed by contestants with an average age of just 18.2. The format struck a chord with viewers and helped spark a nationwide resurgence of interest in the ballad genre in South Korea.
Season 1 dominated the 20–49 demographic ratings for every episode (Nielsen Korea), placed every episode in Netflix Korea’s Series Top 10, and saw its online clips exceed 100 million cumulative views. The show delivered both ratings and cultural impact, and its Top 12—including winner Lee Ye-ji, Lee Ji-hoon, Cheon Beom-seok, Choi Eun-bin, Hong Seung-min, Song Ji-woo, Kim Yun-i, Min Su-hyun, Lee Jun-seok, Lim Ji-seong, Jung Ji-woong and Jeremy—found wide popularity, with a sold-out nationwide tour following the series.
Building on that success, Our Ballad is opening auditions for season 2. Anyone, male or female, born on or after January 1, 1998, may apply regardless of nationality. Applications open March 16 and close May 10; submissions are accepted online via the show’s official website.
In a statement, producers said, “Thanks to last year’s strong interest and support, Our Ballad is ready to find a new lead. Anyone could be the next artist to define Korea’s next signature ballad. We welcome aspiring balladeers who bring their own emotional voice.”
Full details about the open call are available on the Our Ballad website and on SBS NOW’s Instagram and other official digital channels.
SBS, long known for its audition programming, has partnered with top management firm SM C&C to reignite the ballad wave. Our Ballad is slated to air this fall.
