The Jeongeup Municipal Gugak Orchestra returns to its regular concert stage with a spring-themed program.

The orchestra will present its April installment of the regular concert series, Garden of Sound, on April 29 at 7 p.m. at Yeonji Art Hall. The roughly 70-minute program will highlight the wide-ranging appeal of traditional Korean music and aims to leave a lasting impression on the audience.

The performance opens with the instrumental ensemble performing a taepyeongso sinawi. Next, the changgeuk (traditional musical theater) and instrumental sections present the new folk piece “Spring Song.” Dancer Kim Ga-seul then joins the instrumentalists for “Taepyeongmu,” bringing movement and vitality to the stage.

In a special appearance, Yoon Sang-ho, a pansori instructor in the Jeongeup Municipal Gugakwon’s pansori department, will perform the climactic scene from Simcheongga in which the blind man Sim Bong-sa regains his sight.

The program continues with a janggu drum dance by the dance department, followed by an ipchechang (multi-voiced singing) from Sugungga, including the segment “Ana Yetna — Split the Boat,” combining traditional excitement and elegance. The instrumental section will close the concert with the chamber piece “Shin Modeum.”

Jo Yong-su, director of the Jeongeup Municipal Gugak Orchestra, said, “With our monthly concert returning after a month away, we want to bring the energy and beauty of our traditional music closer to local residents.”

Meanwhile, the orchestra will continue its Cultural Walk series at the same venue on May 27 with a program titled “Movements Bathed in Green.”
