[CBC News] KATSEYE, the global girl group formed through a joint venture between HYBE and Geffen Records, seized the spotlight at Coachella and announced itself as a rising force in the worldwide pop scene.
On the 17th (local time), KATSEYE took the Sahara stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Following a successful first-week set on the 10th, the group returned for Week 2 and delivered an energetic 45-minute performance of 11 songs, eliciting a roaring response from roughly 60,000 festivalgoers.
They opened with their new single “PINKY UP,” then ran through a medley of hits including “Internet Girl,” “Gabriela” and “Gnarly.” The official Coachella channel’s live clip of “PINKY UP” surpassed 6.3 million views by the 18th — outpacing the 5.9 million views of headliner Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” performance and underscoring global interest in KATSEYE.
International outlets praised the set: Billboard called it “bonkers,” and People lauded the group’s “girl-group greatness.”
A standout moment came when KATSEYE performed “GOLDEN” alongside members of virtual girl group HUNTR/X. Critics singled out the fusion of live and virtual performers as one of Coachella’s most memorable scenes.
The so-called Coachella effect showed up immediately in the numbers. Their primary social media followings grew by more than 580,000, pushing their combined total past 47.04 million, and their tracks climbed on the music charts.
Buoyed by a successful Coachella debut, KATSEYE will carry that momentum into a major festival tour.
With solid vocal chops and tightly executed performances, KATSEYE has staked its claim as a next-generation pop icon. Industry watchers are now watching to see what milestones the group will reach in the global music market this summer.
