Namsan Madang Festa is an open gugak (Korean traditional music) festival shaped by young artists and local residents. The outdoor program explores new directions for traditional arts within a hanok — a traditional Korean house — set in the heart of the city. This year’s lineup includes young artists selected through an open call as madangjigi (stage hosts) and the artist appointed head of the 2025 Young Gugak program, offering a diverse slate of performances.

Across three days, acts such as Sonence, Park Su-hyun, Sinawi (Modern Gugak), SWorld and the Seoul Talpae Alliance will take the stage. Additional young gugak artists from a range of genres — including the Traditional Gugak Research Association “Heuruni,” Gugak In Gayo, vocalist Kang Na-hyun, samulnori group Hanmaek, YUHA, the Sebit Gayageum ensemble, TRIGGER and Art Company Gu Seung — will present distinctive performances rooted in traditional music.

Set in the hanok outdoor courtyard of Seoul Namsan Gugakdang, where the elegance of tradition endures, the festival invites audiences to enjoy gugak beneath the city’s open blue sky. Performances begin each day at 2 p.m., run 30 minutes per session, and admission is free.

Seoul Namsan Gugakdang said the Madang Festa was designed to give young artists a platform for their music and experimental stage work, and to help residents encounter gugak naturally in everyday life. Officials said they hope the hanok performances will offer a renewed encounter with living tradition.

All performances take place in the Seoul Namsan Gugakdang outdoor courtyard and are free to attend. For the full schedule and program details, visit the official Seoul Namsan and Donhwamun Gugakdang websites and social media channels.
