Soprano Lee Yun-kyung will present a Korean art-song recital titled Dad and I on Parents’ Day, Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Palgong Hall at the Daegu Culture & Arts Center.
She plans to share a program shaped by memories of family and a lifetime of music. Built on songs and recollections that reach back to her childhood, the recital focuses on Korean art songs that reflect those ties.
The concert is organized around three themes—Longing, Hometown, and And You—and features familiar Korean art songs such as “Gareuna” (Gareuna), “Biga” (Rain), “Dongshimcho” (Dongshimcho), “Thoughts of Home,” “San” (Mountain), “Longing,” and “On the Hill.” The program aims to awaken each listener’s own memories and emotions.
In the second half, SM Classics composer Kang Han-moe will present new arrangements of children’s songs and nostalgic tunes, giving contemporary interpretations to well-known pieces like “Mother and Sister, and…” and “Jenny with the Golden Hair from the Suwannee River.”
Pianist Nam Ja-eun will accompany Lee onstage. Nam has performed at major venues at home and abroad and has served as a music coach and accompanist for a wide range of operas and recitals.
Lee said, “My parents raised me to be a singer. I grew up singing from a very young age. I wanted to translate the time and memories I shared with my family into music. I hope the concert gives audience members a moment to recall their own cherished memories.”
All seats 20,000 KRW (about $15). Suitable for elementary-school-aged children and older. For inquiries, call 010-3217-8089
