[CBC News] BTS’s new album Arirang has held top positions on global streaming and album charts for six consecutive weeks, showcasing its staying power.
According to Spotify’s latest weekly charts (April 24–April 30), Arirang ranked No. 2 on the Weekly Top Albums Global chart. The lead single, “SWIM,” also reached No. 2 on the Weekly Top Songs Global chart. All 14 tracks from the release have remained on the charts for six straight weeks, and “SWIM” has stayed in the daily chart’s top three for 42 consecutive days.
The group also made a strong showing on the U.K. Official Charts. In the Official Albums Top 100 released May 2, Arirang placed No. 17, and it climbed eight spots to No. 12 on the Official Physical Albums chart. The album re-entered the Vinyl Albums chart at No. 18, underscoring robust demand for physical copies.
Momentum continued across Europe and Australia. Arirang reached No. 7 on Australia’s ARIA Top 50 Albums chart and No. 9 on France’s SNEP Top Albums chart, marking six consecutive weeks inside the top 10.
Official sales certifications followed. Arirang earned gold certifications in Italy (FIMI) and Spain (EPDM) after surpassing 25,000 and 20,000 units sold, respectively, and it received a platinum certification in France after selling roughly 100,000 copies.
On Japan’s Oricon Weekly Digital Album Ranking (May 4), Arirang reclaimed the No. 1 spot after five weeks. Older tracks also surged: boosted by last month’s Tokyo Dome concert, the 2017 song “Crystal Snow” rose to No. 1 on the Weekly Streaming Fastest Rising chart, while “MIC Drop” climbed to No. 8 — a sign that fans are embracing both the new release and the group’s back catalog.
BTS is currently on the BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ IN NORTH AMERICA, which began in Tampa. They are scheduled to perform at El Paso’s Sun Bowl Stadium on May 2 and 3. Local media and analysts estimate the shows will generate an economic impact of roughly 110.5 billion KRW (approximately $82.9 million).
