The Suwon City Symphony Orchestra will present the youth concert “Dream Up! Concert” on the 14th at the Suwon SK Artrium Grand Hall. Violinist Ji-sun Kim, the first visually impaired Korean musician to earn a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, joins as soloist and will help the program explore the theme of dreams from several perspectives.
The concert focuses on courage, confidence and the spirit of challenge. The repertoire traces moments of change sparked by individual decisions, the choice to take control of one’s life, and the first steps toward previously unseen worlds — musical moments designed to draw the audience into the stage. Familiar film music alongside classical pieces should make the program especially accessible to younger listeners.

Under Associate Conductor Eun-hye Shin, the program opens with the William Tell Overture. The orchestra moves on to approachable favorites such as the Carmen Fantasy and “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The second half begins with the second movement of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” continues with Saint-Saëns’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, and culminates with the main title from Star Wars: A New Hope, delivering a broad musical survey that spans eras and genres.
The evening will include a short onstage conversation with soloist Ji-sun Kim, blending performance and discussion to deepen the audience’s understanding of the music. Kim, the first visually impaired Korean violinist to complete a master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, has earned recognition at major competitions, including international contests. She now combines performing and teaching as she continues to develop her artistic voice.
