Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, addressed demands for clarity on the ‘Yoon Again’ controversy. He stated, “I’ve been clear about our stance on the current hot-button issues – martial law, impeachment, distancing from former President Yoon Suk Yeol, ‘Yoon Again’, and election fraud allegations – since before the party convention.”

During a February 10 appearance on Munhwa Ilbo’s YouTube show ‘News Show’, Jang emphasized, “While people may interpret my words differently or react with disappointment or agreement, I’ve carefully chosen each word as the party leader. My position remains unchanged from previous statements.”

This comes after far-right YouTuber Jeon Han-gil demanded Jang clarify within three days whether he officially opposes aligning with martial law supporters, election fraud claimants, or the ‘Yoon Again’ faction.

Responding to questions about Jeon, Jang asserted, “To win elections, we must challenge the Lee Jae-myung administration and effectively present our future agenda. It’s not about whether ‘Jang Dong-hyuk will join us,’ but about collaborating with someone who can tackle these issues.”

Kim Min-soo, a senior party member aligned with the leadership, participated in a debate hosted by far-right YouTubers on February 9. He argued, “Chanting ‘Yoon Again’ won’t secure local election victories. Despite a decade of election fraud claims in South Korea, support for this narrative has only dwindled.”

Although not Jang’s words, Kim’s statement marks a clear departure from the election fraud claims pushed by the party’s more extreme supporters.

Jang reiterated, “The path forward is for the public to support my leadership of the People Power Party and help resolve these challenges.”

Addressing criticism about his stance on emergency martial law, Jang explained, “I’ve expressed my position using language appropriate for a party leader. Words alone can’t resolve the separation issue satisfactorily. We need to demonstrate results through actions.”

He added, “Continually raising this issue only breeds division. If necessary, I’ll clarify my position in a manner befitting a party leader when the time comes.”

Regarding the ‘Party Member Bulletin Board Incident’ that led to former representative Han Dong-hoon’s expulsion, Jang called it a case of public opinion manipulation. He criticized Han, stating the issue should have been resolved in a way that addressed the weakened momentum of Yoon Suk Yeol’s government, but nothing was accomplished.

Jang explained his decision to cooperate with investigators, citing disputes over the bulletin board incident facts and Han’s lawsuit against the party’s audit committee. He noted that party members twice called for an investigation during general assemblies.

Responding to the reformist group ‘Alternatives and Future’ demanding a halt to disciplinary procedures against lawmakers like Bae Hyun-jin, Jang stated, “It’s inappropriate to dictate matters under the Ethics Committee’s purview. Allowing the Ethics Committee to handle its designated issues maintains party discipline and principles.”

Addressing Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s repeated calls for his resignation, Jang countered, “I hope Oh focuses on presenting a vision for Seoul’s role in leading South Korea’s future.”

When asked about the necessity of a primary for the Seoul mayoral candidate, Jang said, “Having multiple strong candidates engage in fair competition to select one nominee will enhance our electoral competitiveness.”

Lastly, responding to concerns about being influenced by YouTuber Dr. Go Seong-guk, Jang clarified, “My last interaction with Dr. Go was a YouTube shoot after the party convention. Since then, we haven’t met or communicated. I discuss party issues with leadership and other members.”
