The Super-Regional Administrative Industry Committee of the Chungcheong Metropolitan Council held its inaugural meeting on February 10th, receiving a comprehensive briefing on the major work plans for 2026.
During the session, committee members unanimously stressed the importance of articulating clear regional-level strategies, moving beyond the mere enumeration of individual projects.
Councilwoman Kim Hyun-mi (Democratic Party, Sejong Sodam-dong) addressed the issue of dispatched personnel allowances, proposing the establishment of new guidelines for special local government standard expenses in 2026. She urged for the implementation of payments through collaborative discussions among the four cities and provinces involved.
Councilman Shin Young-ho (People Power Party, Seocheon 2) drew upon his experience with the Kansai Metropolitan Union’s international business trips, emphasizing network building as the cornerstone of the union’s effectiveness.
Councilwoman Ahn Kyung-ja (Independent, proportional representation) highlighted the significance of the four cities and provinces adopting uniform standards for projects such as monitoring water environment management in the Geum River basin and conducting research on urban ecological networks.
Councilman Koo Hyung-seo (Democratic Party, Chungnam Cheonan 4) pointed out that the current budget-centric project structure hinders the ability to respond to new government grant opportunities. He advocated for proactive preparations and budget allocations to secure funding for public projects.
Councilman Yoo In-ho (Independent, Sejong Boram-dong) emphasized the need to enhance key projects that deliver tangible results, noting the close connection between the union’s future and the ongoing discussions on administrative integration between Daejeon and Chungnam.
The committee reached a consensus that, as talks on administrative integration between Daejeon and Chungnam gain momentum, it is crucial to establish a clear direction for the preservation and functions of the Chungcheong Metropolitan Union.
