The Chungcheong Regional Union’s Super-Regional Administrative Industry Committee, led by Chairman Kim Seon-gwang, convened its first meeting on the 10th to review key work plans for 2026 under the committee’s purview.

During the discussion, Assemblywoman Kim Hyun-mi (Democratic Party, Sejong Sodam-dong) urged, “With new regulations for standard expenses starting in 2026, please actively pursue providing dispatch personnel assistance payments through inter-provincial consultations.”

The committee examined progress on super-regional initiatives, including free transit cards for seniors, integrated support for cancer survivors, and co-hosting the Summer World University Games in the Chungcheong area. Kim emphasized, “The Chungcheong Regional Union must present a comprehensive vision for the entire region, beyond individual projects.”

Assemblyman Shin Young-ho (People Power Party, Seocheon 2), drawing from his experience with the Kansai Regional Union, stated, “The union’s core is network-building. We should prioritize forming a consultative body across the four provinces and developing joint strategies for government projects, rather than focusing solely on individual initiatives.”

Shin added, “Regardless of Daejeon-Chungnam integration, we must continue discussing the union’s functions and roles,” highlighting the need for institutional restructuring post-integration.

Assemblywoman Ahn Kyung-ja (People Power Party, Proportional) commended the unified approach of the four provinces in monitoring water management and urban ecology studies, calling for more joint super-regional initiatives.

Assemblyman Koo Hyung-seo (Democratic Party, Cheonan 4) noted, “Operating within existing budgets limits our ability to pursue new government projects,” emphasizing the need for proactive preparation and budget allocation.

He also requested consideration of separate studies on regional carbon neutrality practices and inter-provincial infrastructure coordination.

Assemblyman Yoo In-ho (Democratic Party, Sejong Boram-dong) observed, “The policy landscape has shifted significantly since the 2026 budget preparation. The union’s future is closely tied to Daejeon-Chungnam integration discussions.”

Yoo stressed the importance of focusing on high-impact projects to solidify the union’s identity and value.

Chairman Kim concluded, “While our path is challenging, the potential for change and our responsibilities are substantial. Let’s work together with a sense of mission to shape Chungcheong’s future.”

The committee unanimously called for a clear direction on the union’s role amid ongoing Daejeon-Chungnam integration talks.

Moving forward, the committee plans to continue discussions on establishing the union’s institutional status and strategically restructuring super-regional cooperation projects.
