Jang Dong-hyuk’s Stance on Controversial Issues: What Does It Mean for the Future of the People Power Party?

[Herald Economy = Kim Hae-sol] On November 10th, Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, stated, “I have consistently expressed my clear stance on the controversial issues of martial law, impeachment, severance, ‘Yoon Again,’ and election fraud claims, even before the party convention.”

Jang made this statement during an appearance on the YouTube show ‘Heo Min’s News Show.’ He was responding to YouTuber Jeon Han-gil’s recent demand for clarification on whether his opposition to pro-martial law factions, election fraud claimants, and ‘Yoon Again’ supporters is the party’s official position. Jang affirmed, “My official stance remains unchanged.”

He elaborated, “To secure an election victory, we must challenge the Lee Jae-myung administration while effectively presenting our future agenda. Instead of questioning my allegiance, we should collaborate to address these issues.”

Jang emphasized, “The most effective approach is to support my leadership of the People Power Party and work together to resolve these challenges.”

Addressing internal criticism about his lack of clarity on severing ties with certain factions, despite apologizing for the emergency martial law controversy, Jang explained, “I’ve articulated my position as clearly as possible within my role as party leader. The issue of severance can’t be resolved through words alone; we must demonstrate results through action.”

He added, “Continuously raising this issue only breeds division,” and stated, “If necessary, when the situation demands, I will clarify my position using language appropriate for a party leader.”

Regarding the ‘party member bulletin board incident’ that led to former leader Han Dong-hoon’s expulsion, Jang described it as “a case of public opinion manipulation.” He noted, “The issue should have been addressed in a manner commensurate with its impact on the Yoon Suk Yeol administration’s governance, but no effective action was taken.”

Jang continued, “Given the ongoing disputes over the bulletin board incident and former leader Han’s lawsuit against the party’s audit committee, we must now cooperate with investigative agencies. This decision follows two separate demands for investigation from National Assembly members during general assemblies.”

In response to calls from some party members to withdraw disciplinary discussions against Rep. Baek Hyun-jin, who is aligned with the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction, Jang firmly stated, “This matter should be handled by the ethics committee based on established principles and standards.”

Addressing Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s repeated calls for his resignation, Jang remarked, “As party leader, it’s not appropriate for me to respond to each of these requests. I hope Mayor Oh focuses on presenting his vision for his potential fifth term as mayor instead.”
