Panel of 16 audit inspectors formed… Jeon Hyun-sook (People Power Party, proportional) elected lead inspector; will review provincial and education office finances for 20 days from April 15 to May 4

The Gyeongnam Provincial Council appointed a panel of audit inspectors on the 17th to conduct the FY2025 settlement audit and has begun the formal review.
That day, the inspectors held a briefing to outline how they will run the audit and to discuss priority areas for inspection. They elected Jeon Hyun-sook (People Power Party, proportional) as the lead audit inspector.
At the first plenary session of the 430th extraordinary meeting on the 10th, the council appointed a total of 16 audit inspectors. The panel includes three assembly members—Jeon Hyun-sook (People Power Party, proportional), Kwon Yo-chan (People Power Party, Gimhae 4) and Heo Yong-bok (People Power Party, Yangsan 6)—alongside 13 financial-management professionals, certified public accountants and tax accountants with extensive experience in public finance and accounting.
From April 15 through May 4—a 20-day period—the inspectors will carry out a comprehensive audit of FY2025 revenues and expenditures at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government and the Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education. Their review will cover funds, bonds and debt, public assets, inventory management and other fiscal areas.
The audit will assess whether budget formulation and execution complied with relevant laws and regulations. Inspectors will focus on fiscal soundness, efficiency and the reasonableness of budget implementation. They will also identify problems that emerged during project execution and recommend corrective measures so those improvements can be reflected in future fiscal management.
Council Chair Choi Hak-beom said, “An audit is not simply a check of numbers. It verifies that taxpayers’ money was spent for its intended purposes and strengthens transparency and accountability in fiscal management. I urge everyone to review the records carefully and objectively and to offer wise recommendations so Gyeongnam’s finances can be managed more transparently and efficiently.”
Jeon Hyun-sook said, “An audit is a critical process for verifying whether the year’s budget was used appropriately for its intended purposes. My fellow inspectors and I will examine the accounts thoroughly and responsibly so residents can have confidence in the province’s fiscal management.”
The governor and the provincial education superintendent must attach the inspectors’ audit opinion to the settlement document and submit it to the council by May 31. The council will review and vote to approve the FY2025 settlement at the first regular session of the 435th assembly, scheduled for September.
