South Korea’s Democratic Party candidates for municipal and county chief positions in South Jeolla Province pledged not to engage in unfair campaign practices ahead of the June 3 local elections and agreed to accept disciplinary measures, including disqualification, if they violate that commitment.

On March 27, the Democratic Party’s South Jeolla chapter held a “One Team” pledge ceremony and a briefing on primary procedures intended to support the Lee Jae‑myung administration and secure victory in the ninth nationwide local elections.

Before the event, primary contenders for local executive posts vowed to run fair campaigns and to accept the party’s decisions. The primaries will be held in 11 municipalities and counties — Mokpo, Yeosu, Gwangyang, Naju, Damyang, Jangheung, Gangjin, Wando, Jindo, Yeongam and Muan — as approved by the provincial executive committee.

Candidates committed to refrain from offering money or favors, defaming rivals, running smear campaigns, making personal attacks, spreading false information, or stirring regional animosities during the campaign.

They also pledged not to interfere with polling during the public ARS telephone-voting period and agreed to accept disciplinary action, including disqualification, if unfair practices such as illegal call forwarding occur.

“This pledge ceremony is an important first step toward establishing a culture of fair primaries and strengthening unity within the party,” said Kim Won‑i, chair of the Democratic Party’s South Jeolla chapter. “I expect all candidates to embrace the One Team spirit and work together to win the local elections.”
